The Calanques

This excursion takes place almost exclusively in the Calanques massif, on forest tracks (DFCI) and small roads. We descend to the Calanque de Sormiou to enjoy the surroundings. The landscape is unique with its transparent waters, white limestone cliffs, pine forests, and scrubland.”

What to expect ?

This route leads us straight to the Calanque de Sormiou, surely one of the most beautiful and emblematic ones with its fine sandy beach and typical cabins. A change of scenery guaranteed.

SUMMARY

The Sormiou Ride, as its name suggests, takes us from the Port de la Pointe Rouge to the Sormiou calanque along a wooded route, almost entirely away from traffic. It’s an outing accessible to a wide audience due to its short length and few technical sections. However, there are steep climbs where electric assistance proves essential. Therefore, basic cycling skills and knowledge of bicycle gears are necessary.

The arrival at the Col de Sormiou is always a moment of amazement, even for us who come here every day, given the impressive and unique panorama it offers.

Once at the bottom of the calanque in Sormiou, the place is ideal for relaxation, swimming, and snorkeling. We take long breaks here before returning via an easy route to our starting point.

IncluDED

  • Bilingual guide
  • Very recent electric mountain bike
  • Small group guaranteed (maximum 12 people)
  • Photo/swimming breaks

What to expect

The Calanques National Park is an incredibly beautiful region with diverse landscapes and a unique cultural heritage. Located in the south of France and stretching over 20 km of coastline between Marseille and Cassis, it is the only European national park that encompasses terrestrial, marine, and urban areas.

1 Pointe Rouge – EVTT Provence

Our shop is unique, located in a garage right next to Pointe Rouge beach. Here, you’ll find a wide range of services (restaurants, snacks, supermarkets, bars, ice cream parlors), a sandy beach, and numerous water activities (paddleboarding, kayaking, rowing, windsurfing, etc.). From spring to autumn, you can also reach us by public boat from downtown Marseille.

2 Parc Pastré

We quickly leave the roads of Marseille to reach Parc Pastré, its famous castle, and its beautiful pine forest. A first hill conquered with the help of electric assistance provides a beautiful panorama of the city of Marseille up to L’Estaque and the Friou Islands. We then exit this beautiful preserved park to reach our destination.

3 Calanque de Sormiou

Sormiou is the largest calanque in the National Park. Arriving from above provides a breathtaking view. From spring to autumn, we descend to the sandy beach for a swim. A must-see! The rest of the year, we take a different but equally enjoyable route to discover other paths. We descend to Sormiou or Morgiou depending on the group’s level, the crowd, and weather conditions.

4 Belvédère de Sormiou

Once we finish our break at the Calanque de Sormiou, we ascend to the ridge overlooking it to follow a balcony route. A wide panorama unfolds before us, showcasing Sormiou, the Anse de la Triperie where the Cosquer Cave is located, the Riou Island, and in the distance, Cap Sicié. This unique viewpoint provides an opportunity for some historical explanations about this historically rich location and a well-deserved photo session.

5 Traversée des quartiers Suds

A pleasant route, mainly on forest tracks and then a cycle path, brings us back to our starting point at Pointe Rouge. Here, you’ll find everything to quench your thirst, satisfy your hunger, or indulge in a return to the beach.
