Summary

Hiking is undoubtedly the best way to discover and enjoy the Calanques massif.

You will be accompanied by a local guide who will introduce you to the richness of this heritage classified as a National Park and UNESCO World Heritage.

Located at the city’s doorstep, it features a preserved natural area with steep limestone cliffs, beaches, forests, and typical Mediterranean maquis.

Our route starts from the Luminy university complex, at the heart of the National Park. From here, we quickly access some of the most beautiful Calanques.

After passing through a pleasant pine forest, we’ll descend to the Port de Morgiou. A coffee break is possible here.

Depending on the group, preferences, and weather, we may access, via a small trail, the Anse de la Triperie, below which lies the famous Cosquer Cave.

We’ll then retrace our steps to walk along the Calanque de Morgiou. A first swimming stop at the Blue Cave is possible here, involving a short dive and a few meters of swimming. The morning light here is unique.

A coastal trail with some rocky passages equipped with ladders then leads us to Sugiton and one of its small beaches. A long swimming break and lunch here before heading back up to the Porte d’Orient (Sugiton Belvedere, located 250m above sea level).

The actual walking time is between 2 and 3 hours, with the total duration of the outing being approximately 6 hours. We make frequent stops to take photos, discuss the historically rich locations, and allow participants to swim.

Level of difficulty

Excursion accessible to all. Although the route follows the seaside, the Calanques are a very rugged massif with rocky trails similar to those found in the mountains. Elevation changes should also be considered (approximately 400m throughout the day). In summer, the heat is also a factor to take into account. Therefore, it is necessary to be in decent physical condition to undertake this outing, to avoid encountering difficulties.
